Jambo! Another fine day in Africa!
We got up for a 7:30 am game drive. Again, we did not see the leopard, but our driver, Michael, sure tried. We did see some cool things though...a baby (mtoto) rhino and its mother, a hyena chasing the pelicans on the shore of Lake Nakuru, and a LOT of baboon. We saw several babies and young ones too....soooo cute!
After the game drive, we headed back to Nairobi and the Giraffe Manor, our next overnight stay.
We said goodbye to Michael and exchanged contact information with him. He was a really nice, genuine person, and we were very lucky to have had him. Upon arriving at the Manor, we weren't sure what to expect, but we soon found out. The Manor is this huge house covered in vines...straight out of a movie...in fact it probably has been in movies, as well as several books and National Geographic articles. Upon entering the bed and breakfast, we met Nadine, a British lady, who along with her husband is the host of the house. As soon as we got in, lunch was being served, and apparently they had waited for us...we were late. All of the house guests were at the table eating together; all together, including the hosts, there were 9 of us. Lunch was lasagna, salad, and wine, and was hand served by butlers. Following lunch was a giraffe feeding on the front veranda, and Mike and I were able to hand feed a couple of giraffes. After that, there was coffee in the "sun room"...it was all very hoity toity, but the people were nice. Then we went to the Karen Blixen Giraffe Center to feed some more giraffes and go on a nature walk. As guests of the manor, we were treated specially at the Center, and had to be personally escorted from the manor to the Center by a house worker. It all felt very odd to us, since we are so used to doing everything on our own! After our nature walk, which was interesting, I guess...we learned a lot about plants, we went back to the manor for tea...again, very posh, very prim and proper :) Then we went to go check out and feed "Jock," the male giraffe of the center, who was named after the original owner of the Manor. When we got back, there were early evening drinks on the veranda, while we sat and watched the warthogs graze. It was very relaxing, though I could imagine how it might get boring if you were staying here for a long period of time. Now we are getting ready to go have dinner...again, with all of the guests. I'll update you on how it goes :)
