07/24/2005: "July 23 - London, England"

We went to London yesterday and it was interesting...

We arrived in the terminal where of course it was under construction. Why is every airport where ever you go, always under construction? Anyway, we had to catch a train to get out of the terminal because the underground wasn't working because of the bombings. It took us forever to get to the train, by bus and then a ticket was 14 pounds. That is 28 dollars! How crappy is that, the train ride was only 15 minutes. It literally took us 4 hours to get off the plane, clear customs, and figure out where we were going.

Anyway, we got to the underground finally and took it to a stop close to Buckingham Palace. We
stood and watched the changing of the guard which was full of needless crowd pleasing. They had the band play and that got real boring real fast. Funny part is the police there gave a speech about pick-pockets and to be careful, and not 5 mintues later, somebody was trying to open my backpack. I wanted to kick his ass! I turned around and asked him if he wanted to back up, he gave a nervous laugh and then backed up and took of. He had a friend with him too. I gave that guy the look of death and he walked away. Thieves are pussies, talk crap to them and they will run away.

Anyway, that was about it. We walked to a pub that also charged too much for a drink, but I do have to say, English beer from the draft is the bomb. It was so good. Plus it was cool to be in a real English pub, even though it was very smoky. I had fish & chips with mashed peas, and Katie had Sausages and mash. Anyway, we went to Tower Bridge, London Tower, London Bridge (dumb - Tower Bridge was way better) and saw Big Ben and Westminster Abbey and went back to the airport.

By the time we got back we still had 5 hours till our flight. We sat in the pub and drank some more. Then we figured out that we read the flight information wrong, damn 24 hour clocks! So we raced and begged the managers to move us to the front so we could check our bags and catch our flight. Anyway, we made the flight and now I am writing from Kenya. Its pretty cool so far we saw some zebras. I feel itchy and I already sprayed myself down with mosquito replellant. I still feel itchy though. I'll write when I feel like it, or when Katie whines or cries and I have to to make her happy. Oh yeah, taking malaria pills everyday sucks. Now I know what birth control is like!
